Message from the Executive Director (LIFT Volume 25 Issue 2, March 2005)

The spirit of Tom Berner’s generosity is present in our New Directions in Cinema Screening Series commencing March 9 with the world premiere of Steve Sanguedolce’s feature Dead Time. The New Directions in Cinema Series highlights the achievements of innovative LIFT filmmakers who challenge the norms of conventional filmmaking. Each of the artists showcases in our new series demonstrate remarkable creativity as they investigate new narrative and visual motifs in film. Each of the screenings will include new, never-before-seen work. Other artists selected in the series include John Price, Robert Kennedy and Deirdre Logue. We will be adding new artists throughout the year.

As usual, LIFT has a number of special events planned over the new few months. We will commence our Poetry/Projections project in partnership with the League of Canadian Poets. We will also co-present Sweet 16, a celebration of Pleasure Dome’s sixteenth year of presenting experimental film and video. We are also in the planning process of our own celebration: the 25th anniversary of LIFT in 2006. We hope to extend our merriment for the entire year of 2006.

Shine it On!
